Boadleaf Trees

Acer Campestre 

(Field Maple)

Hardy tree with light brown steams and five lobed, dark green leaves; turning yellow-green and eventually a pinkish-red in Autumn.


Acer Pseudoplatanus

(Sycamore)

Fast-growing, resilient tree with dark pink-grey bark, with five lobed leaves. Producing 'racemes' fruits which turn into winged fruit called 'samara.' 



Ginkgo Biloba 

(Maidenhair Tree)

Large, deciduous tree with large fan-shaped leaves which are bright green in summer before turning yellow and falling in Autumn.


Alnus Cordata

(Italian Alder)

Fast-growing tree with heart-shaped, glossy, dark green leaves with greenish-yellow Catkins appearing in early Spring.


Alnus Glutinosa

(Common Alder)

A deciduous tree with leathery dark green leaves and Catkins appearing as early as February.


Betula Penudla

(Silver Birch)

Tall, slender tree with white bark and arched branches. Its green leaves turn bright yellow in Autumn.


Castanea Satvia

(Sweet Chestnut)

Large, fast-growing tree with grey-purple twisting bark and large, glossy, serrated leaves. In July long, yellow catkins appear, followed by shiny 'conkers' enclosed in a spiky case in the Autumn.


Aesculus Hippocastanum

(Horse Chestnut)

Palmate leaves made up of five-seven pointed, toothed leaflets spreading from a central stem, candle-like white flowers appear in May, followed by glossy-brown conkers encased in a spiky green husk in Autumn.


Juglans Nigra

(Black Walnut)

Large, broadleaf tree with dark, ridged bark and pinnate leaves filled with multiple pointed, oval leaflets. Catkins appear in early Summer which turn into a brown nut, held inside a rough husk, in Autumn.

Juglans Regia

(Common Walnut)

Identified by a short trunk and broad crown, with shiny pinnate leaves made of five to seven oval leaflets. Male and female flowers appear in Spring followed by edible nuts coated in a smooth flesh husk in Autumn.


Malus Sylvestris

(Crab Apple)

Irregularly rounded with a wide canopy and greyish flecked bark which can become twisted and twigs develop spines. Glossy oval leaves, sweet white-pink blossom in Spring developing into small yellow-green apple-like fruits in Autumn.


Populus Nigra

(Native Black Poplar)

Dark brown bark, often mistake for black, thick with numerous fissures and burrs and shiny heart-shaped leaves. Either red male flowers or yellow female Catkins in the Spring. Female Catkins develop into fluffy cotton-like seeds which fall late Summer.

Pyrus Communis

(Wild Pear)

Oval, toothed, green leaves turning gold then black in Autumn. Clusters of white flowers and fruit which grows on long stalks and ripen to a golden-yellow colour with sweet flesh.


Quercus Petraea

(Sessile Oak)

Large tree with leathery, dark-green leaves (which are paler on the underneath), turning orange-brown in Autumn. Flowering catkins develop into acorns in Autumn.



Quercus Ilex

(Holm Oak)

Evergreen leaves give a splash of colour in Winter months. Elongated yellow catkins develop into acorns with a pointed tip, they turn dark red-brown before falling.


Quercus Robur

(English Oak)

Large, deciduous tree, forming a matured broad and spreading crown.  Vibrant green leaves appear in May, growing in bunches and turning deep orange-red in Autumn. Long catkins in which develop into an abundance of acorns.

Quercus Rubra

(Red Oak)

Fast growing deciduous tree with flaming Autumn colours. Dark green leaves with few lobes, each pointed with several teeth. Clusters of catkins which develop into acorns, enclosed by a rounded cup. 


 Sorbus Aria

(Whitebeam)

Compact, domed, deciduous tree with thick, oval leaves which fade to a russet colour in Autumn. Five-petalled flowers appear in clusters in May, developing into scarlet berries which ripen in late Summer/ early Autumn.

Sorbus Aucuparia

(Rowan)

Leaves are divided pinnately into bright-green leaflets. dense clusters of white flowers bloom in Spring, followed by heavy bunches of scarlet  berries in Autumn.


Sorbus Torminalis

(Wild Service Tree)

Rare and hard to find, Wild Service Tree has lobed leaves, visibly similar to Maple, which turn a coppery-red before falling in Autumn. Clusters of white flowers form in late Spring/ early Summer, with pollinated flowers developing into green-brown oval fruits, also known as 'chequers'.


Sorbus Intermedia

(Swedish Whitebeam)

Medium-sized deciduous tree, with a broad, dense canopy. Deeply-lobed, dark green leaves. Thick clusters of white flowers in the Spring which develop into groups of rich-red berries in Autumn


Tilia Cordata

(Small Leaved Lime)

Sturdy, large deciduous tree with heart-shaped leaves and green-yellow flowers which hang in clusters in the Spring. The flowers have a rich, heavy scent which attracts many insects and pollinators. These fruits turn into oval smooth fruits.

Liquidambar Styraciflua

(Sweetgum)

Robust, low-maintenance tree with vibrant seasonal shifts, adapting well to diverse soil types and climates. Versatile and resilient with star-shaped leaves of rich autumnal colours.


Carpinus Betulus

(Hornbeam)

Tough, hardy tree with ribbed leaves which go from green to yellow then to brown through out the seasons. It forms catkins in late Spring which turn into winged nuts in Autumn.
